BATON ROUGE, La. — The University of Kentucky softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to No. 5 (USA Today/NFCA) LSU Sunday afternoon at Tiger Park.

The Wildcats threatened to score in the top of the first when Kwiatkowski led off with a bunt single and moved to second when the throw to first was high. After moving to third on a Nikki Jones sacrifice, Kwiatkowski was stranded as Lyndsey Angus popped out and Angie Dal Pozzo struck out.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three hits and a walk after leadoff-hitter Dee Douglas reached on a UK error.

Kentucky loaded the bases in the third inning on three walks with two outs but was unable to capitalize on LSU starter Britni Sneed’s wildness.

LSU added their third run of the game in the bottom of the third inning on two singles and a sacrifice to left field. Angus drilled a two-out double to right field in the top of the fifth inning, but was stranded when Dal Pozzo fouled out to Christy Connor at first base.

The Tigers increased the lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning on three singles with no outs. Monique Lovell replaced UK starter Jen Howland with two runners on base and held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the inning.

LSU added four runs in the bottom of the sixth, with the Tigers’ Trena Peel ending the game with a three-run home run to center field.

LSU’s Sneed improved to 26-5 on the season and remained undefeated at 15-0 in the SEC.

Kentucky’s Jen Howland took the loss, falling to 5-11 on the season.

The Cats (24-27, 7-15 SEC) return to action Wednesday, April 25, when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for a doubleheader against the Lady Toppers of Western Kentucky.
