LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four members of the 2001 University of Kentucky softball team have been named All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, UK Coach Beth Kirchner announced on Tuesday. Angie Dal Pozzo, Beth Fogle, Morgan Marr and Tiffany Kruse were all selected for the award, which is based upon grade-point averages from the preceding academic year.
“This is truly a credit to the girls,” Kirchner said. “It gives me great pleasure to see them succeeding not only on the field, but also in the classroom.”
For Dal Pozzo, a Livingston, Ill., native majoring in mechanical engineering, this is the third major academic honor she has received this year, also being named a Second Team GTE Academic All-American and a Verizon Academic All-District IV selection.
Fogle, a marketing major from Bogart, Ga., earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll this past year while being named Second Team GTE Academic All-District IV in 2000.
Marr, who also received the award last year as a sophomore, is majoring in marketing and is on pace to graduate in May of 2002.
This was the first time Kruse, who graduated this past May with a degree in art education, received the award.
UK will begin its’ sixth season of softball on Feb. 1 in Miami, Fla., at the Florida International Tournament.
