In a game which started four hours late and was delayed another 30 minutes during the game because of rain, the University of Kentucky softball team (9-18, 1-8) finally fell to the 11th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (29-4, 8-1) 5-0 Wednesday night in Lexington.

Senior Nikki Jones led off Kentucky’s half of the first inning with a single up the middle, but that’s the only hit that Georgia’s Michelle Green would give up as she earned her 20th win of the season in the shutout.

The Bulldogs’ Nicole Barber, who is challenging Jones at the top of the league’s batting average list, went 2-3 with two RBIs. Shannon McKeon hit a two-run blast in the top of the sixth to cap off the scoring for UG.

The Cats will head to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide in the weekend series, March 22-23. Alabama is currently ranked 18th in the national polls.
