The Kentucky softball team returns to action with a three-game homestand beginning with a Wednesday, Apr. 13, doubleheader against intra-state rival Western Kentucky at 3 p.m.
The Hilltoppers are currently 21-12 on the year after and have won seven straight games, including a four-game sweep at Middle Tennessee last weekend. The Wildcats are 17-31 overall after splitting a doubleheader at LSU and dropping the rubber match of the series.
This marks the seventh meeting all-time between the Cats and Hilltoppers. Western leads 4-2 in the all-time series after each team won a game in the twinbill last season in Bowling Green.
?Western Kentucky is much improved from the fall so we need to be on our toes,? said head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?Obviously we had a good day on Saturday splitting with LSU, but than a disappointing day on Sunday. We need to get back on track.?
The Wildcats hope to do just that during this three-game homestand. UK will be off this weekend before returning to Southeastern Conference play at Arkansas, Apr. 23-24, in what will be a key series for the Cats.
?We are three games out of a spot in the SEC tournament with nine games left,? added Schmidt. ?It is possible, but we are going to have to bear down and get the job done.?
The Cats? home swing continues on Thursday, Apr. 14, against Louisville. Game time for the single game is set for 4 p.m. at the UK Softball Complex.
