TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Kentucky softball team fell by a final of 8-0 today, Apr. 29, at No. 2 Alabama to fall to 20-28 overall and 4-21 in the Southeastern Conference. The Crimson Tide improves to 50-4 and 21-4 in the league with the win.

Alabama scored two with two outs in the first inning on one hit, three walks and a hit batter. UK starter Lindsay Brogdon stranded three Crimson Tide baserunners with a liner to Brooke Marnitz at shortstop to end the inning.

UA added three in runs in the second inning on a two-run homer by Jordan Praytor and a run-scoring single by Dani Woods to make it a 5-0 lead. A pair of singles and a sacrifice fly in the fourth gave Alabama a 6-0 lead.

Alabama starter Blair Potter retired the first 13 Wildcats she faced including eight straight strikeouts. Potter had a perfect game until she plunked Molly Johnson with one away in the fifth. That was as far as she would advance, however, as Ashley Fertic to pop up to second base and Gina Florence struck out swinging to end the inning.

UA plated a run in the bottom of the fifth when Mandy Burford led off the frame with a solo homer to left-center to put the Crimson Tide on top by seven. A walk and a base hit up the middle followed by a deep sacrifice fly to right gave Alabama the 8-0 run-rule win.

The Wildcats did not record a hit in the game and were shutout for the eighth time this season.

Brogdon was charged with the loss to fall to 0-5 on the year after allowing two earned runs on one hit in an inning of work. Amber Matousek tossed 3.1 innings of relief and gave up six earned runs on eight hits.

UK returns to action next weekend, May 5-6, when it hosts No. 20 Florida for three games in the final series of the regular season. Seniors Ashley Fertic, Jenny Sibert, Gina Florence, Katie Campbell and Marnitz will be honored prior to the game on Saturday afternoon.
