LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Kentucky softball?s incoming freshman class has collected numerous post-season awards during the summer months. Megan Aull, Samantha DeMartine, Annie Rowlands and Megan Yocke have all added to their already impressive lists of accomplishments.
Aull was named Kentucky?s Miss Softball after hitting .441 with two home runs, 12 triples and six doubles as a senior. She stole 33 bases, scored 45 runs and drove in 24 for the Owensboro Catholic who finished 30-12-1. Aull was also a first team All-State selection. In addition, she was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School South Central Region first team and earned All-American honorable mention. Aull also received academic first team All-State honors and was a member of the EA Sports Softball All-American second team.
DeMartine earned her third straight Mid-Hudson Athletic League Player of the Year honor in 2007. She now ranks in the top 10 all-time in eight state categories with a .636 batting average, 49 hits, 11 homers, nine doubles, two triples, 42 RBI, 1.234 slugging percentage, 23 walks and .727 on-base percentage. DeMartine holds state records for walks with 91 career bases on balls, 16 triples, 54 doubles and 36 career homers. The six-year varsity starter was named first team All-State and becomes just the third softball player at Marlboro to have her jersey retired.
Rowlands was named to the Ohio-West Virginia All-Star roster. The starting shortstop was also named to the first team CCL. Rowlands comes to the Wildcats from Bishop Ready High School in Columbus, Ohio. She already has strong Kentucky ties where her sister, Kate, is a member of the women?s soccer team. Rowlands has been the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter for BRHS who went 28-2 last season and has advanced to the regional finals each of the past three years.
Yocke was named the West Catholic Athletic League Player of the Year for 2007. She was also named the WCAL Softball MVP. For the season, the senior co-captain helped lead Archbishop Mitty High School to an undefeated record in league play and a national ranking in the top 25. Yocke batted .543 and was named to the WCAL first team.
