LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky softball team has added a doubleheader with Morehead State for Wednesday, March 12, at the UK Softball Complex. First pitch for game one is slated for 3 p.m.

Due to inclement weather this past weekend the UK team had to cancel the Frostbite Classic opening up games on their schedule. Morehead State and Kentucky decided on Wednesday for a mid-week series.

This will be the last non-conference action for the Wildcats before they travel to Knoxville, Saturday and Sunday to play #6/7 Tennessee to open SEC play.

Kentucky (9-8, 0-0), has won seven of their last eight games, included in that stretch was a seven-game winning streak, the second longest string of wins in school history.

Morehead State travels to Lexington with an unblemished 12-0 record. Morehead State has four batters hitting over a .300 clip, while two pitchers are perfect in the circle with an earned run average under one.

The Wildcats are led by a trio of sophomores. Infielders Natalie Smith and Molly Johnson pace the UK bats. Johnson is hitting .417 and leads the team with two home runs and 13 RBI. Smith is hitting at a .357 clip and six extra-base hits. Sophomore pitcher Amber Matousek has a .500 mark as the team?s ace, and leads the team with a career-high 48 strikeouts. She has fanned 10 or more batters in two games this season, which was the first for a UK pitcher since 1999.

Five players have started all 17 games, including Smith and Johnson, senior Ashley Dimkich and freshmen Meagan Aull and Megan Yocke.
