LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky softball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference action when the team plays host to Morehead State on Thursday at the UK Softball Complex. First pitch is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.

The Wildcats (16-9) will face Morehead State (7-10) for the third consecutive season under coach Rachel Lawson. Lawson and the Wildcats are 4-0 against their instate rivals in the last two seasons.

Kentucky is coming off a dramatic come-from-behind victory over fifth-ranked Alabama on Tuesday in Lexington. The Wildcats trailed 2-0 going into the sixth inning when the bats ignited for the home team. Senior Natalie Smith got the rally going with a leadoff single. Junior Megan Yocke then blasted her 11th career home run to tie the second at two apiece.

UK’s offensive onslaught did not end there however. Sophomore Rachel Riley connected for a single into left-center and then junior Meagan Aull put another runner on base with a single through the left side. Sophomore Brittany Cervantes then drilled her fourth home run of the season and the 14th of her career to put the Wildcats ahead for good.

The win over the Crimson Tide marked just the second win all-time against the traditional powerhouse and reigning two-time College World Series participant. The victory over the fifth-ranked team in the nation was the second win over a team in the top-five this season for the Wildcats. UK previously knocked off then ranked No. 5 Arizona State in the season opener back in February.

Morehead State is 7-10 overall and have won six of their last 10 games. The Eagles are led at the dish by Amber Riddle who is batting .364. Rebecca Butler is hitting .318 and has a team-best 14 RBI and four home runs.

In the circle, the Eagles have started Sarah Funston and Alex Gjevre. The duo has combined for 6-8 record and have struck out 95 batters on the season.
