LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky softball team is set to host nonconference opponent Austin Peay for a doubleheader on Wednesday at the UK Softball Complex with first pitch set for 5 p.m. ET. Live stats and a live video stream will be available at UKathletics.com.
The two games tomorrow night against the Lady Govs will mark the final non-conference action at home this season for the Wildcats. UK wraps up its home slate later this week with a three-game weekend series against No. 12 LSU.
Kentucky (27-18) is coming off a series with No. 3 Florida in which the Wildcats earned a 5-3 victory over its fourth top-10 opponent this season in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader. Behind the steady pitching effort from Rachel Riley and the offensive production from juniors Megan Yocke and Samantha DeMartine the Wildcats came back from a three-run deficit to beat the Gators in Gainesville, Fla. Previously, UK has also knocked off No. 5 Arizona State, No. 5 Alabama and No. 7 Georgia this season.
DeMartine’s bat has caught fire as of late which included a .500 week in four games a week ago. The junior first baseman has also hit three doubles and a home run in the last two weeks of the season. Yocke batted .462 for the week and was the only UK player to register at least two hits in all three games with Florida.
Freshman Kara Dill has also provided a steady spark to the Kentucky offense. Dill batted .462 in four games last week, but she also excelled at reaching base with her speedy feet. Twice during the week Dill reached base because of a fielding error by the opponent.
Kentucky is on pace to have its second consecutive 30-win season, which would mark the first time in school allure that the Blue and White have totaled back-to-back 30 win seasons.
Austin Peay enters the doubleheader matchup with Kentucky possessing a 14-28 overall record on the season. The Lady Govs are led at the dish by Brittany Williams who is batting a team-best .298 on the season with 19 RBI.
In the circle, Austin Peay is paced by Morgan Brewer who owns 10 of the squad’s 14 victories. Brewer has a 2.74 ERA and has limited opposing batters to just a .254 average.
