No. 11 Georgia Beats Kentucky, 11-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 11 Georgia beat Kentucky 11-1 on Saturday afternoon at John Cropp Stadium to secure the series against the Wildcats. Game three will be Sunday at 1 p.m. ET with the game broadcasted live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.

Georgia is now 26-8 on the year and 5-3 in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky falls to 21-15 and is 1-10 in the SEC.

Georgia hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning to make things in the Bulldogs favor early. UGA 4, UK 0

Karissa Hamilton hit a seeing-eye RBI single down the left-field line in the bottom of the first inning. UGA 4, UK 1

Key Player

Peyton Plotts was the key player in the game as she roped a single up the middle after she had appeared to have hit her 10th home run of the season to left field. The call on the field was a foul ball, which was challenged by Kentucky and ultimately upheld on video review controversially. Head coach Rachel Lawson was ejected after the sequence.

Key Moment

The key moment in the game was Georgia’s grand slam with two outs in the top of the first inning to get the Bulldogs off to a quick start.

Key Stat

  1. There were four video reviews in the game, a new single-game high for any Kentucky Softball game on record. Three of the four calls were overturned.

Pitching Recap

Sarah Haendiges started the game and went three innings before McKenzie Oslanzi came in relief. Haendiges then re-entered the game to get the final four outs of the contest.
