Hammond’s Home Run Not Enough as Texas A&M Takes Opener
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Abby Hammond hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to cut into Texas A&M’s lead and make things 3-1, but the Aggies hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to run rule Kentucky and take things with a 10-2 scoreline.
Kentucky is now 20-10 on the season and sits 1-6 in Southeastern Conference play after Friday night’s result. Texas A&M improves to 20-9 and is 3-1 in the SEC.
Game two of the series will be Saturday at 5 p.m. ET from Davis Diamond and will be broadcasted live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.

Abby Hammond was the key player in Friday night’s game as she went for UK’s only runs of the game at the plate and then two innings in relief, allowing three runs on three hits. She threw 38 pitches with 26 recorded as strikes.

McKenzie Oslanzi started the game and went the opening three innings with two earned runs and four walks, throwing 73 pitches in her start. Abby Hammond then entered in relief and went for two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and Sydney Langdon made her first appearance of the year allowing all four runs in the sixth, including the walk-off home run with three earned and two walks.
