Auburn Claims Series In Rubber Match With 2-1 Win Over Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sydney Langdon threw a complete game Saturday at John Cropp Stadium, allowing only one earned run and striking out four batters, but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcat bats were silenced and Auburn claimed the series and the game with a 2-1 win over Kentucky.
Langdon was great all afternoon, only allowing one earned run on six Auburn hits. Langdon struck out four batters, including striking out the side in the top of the first inning to get the game started. The seven-inning outing was her longest of the season in the circle for UK, as she also threw a complete game two weeks ago in a 5-0 win over Bellarmine in a midweek. Langdon threw 107 pitches Saturday with 63 tallied as strikes.
Kentucky’s offense only managed three hits on the afternoon, with Lauryn Borzilleri, Cassie Reasner and Emory Donaldson all recording singles in the game, but UK only had two at bats the entire game with a runner in scoring position and was unable to capitalize as the Tigers used an error in the top of the fifth to score the game-winning and series-clinching run.
Kentucky is back in action Wednesday night at 6 p.m. ET against the Marshall Thundering Herd at John Cropp Stadium. The game will air live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. With the loss, UK now sits 23-17 on the season and is 6-9 in Southeastern Conference play. Auburn is 2-13 in the SEC with Saturday’s win and now is 24-15 overall on the year.
Key Play
The key play in the game was Emory Donaldson’s RBI sacrifice fly to left center in the bottom of the second inning to give Kentucky the 1-0 lead. It was UK’s only scoring play of the game.
Key Player
Emory Donaldson was the key player in the game, as she went 1-for-2 recording her first SEC hit of the season in the bottom of the seventh and notching an RBI on a sac fly in the second.
