Arkansas Uses Three-Run First to Claim 10-2 Series-Clinching Win
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Softball team suffered a run-rule loss for the first time this season Saturday afternoon, dropping a 10-2 decision in five innings to No. 12 Arkansas.
Game three of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday as the Wildcats will look to salvage a game from the series. The Wildcats have now lost four games in a row and are under .500 in Southeastern Conference play for the first time this season at 5-6. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.
The Razorbacks exploded for three runs on a three-run homer off the bat of Courtney Day in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead, as Arkansas put up a crooked number on the scoreboard in the first inning for the second-straight day. That lead ballooned in the middle innings to 7-1 before a walk-off RBI single in the fifth ended the proceedings.
Sarah Haendiges was the starting pitcher for Kentucky as she was tagged with three runs and for the second-straight night, UK’s starter was unable to make it out of the first inning. Sydney Langdon came on in relief and was followed by Julie Kelley who gave UK three quality innings out of the bullpen as a freshman.
Kentucky is now 21-14 on the year.
Key Play
Kentucky’s key play offensively was an RBI single up the middle by Karissa Hamilton to score Cassie Reasner in the top of the second inning as UK cut into Arkansas’ lead to make things 3-1.
