Fall’s Strong Outing in Relief Not Enough as No. 4 LSU Wins Opener

BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman pitcher Carson Fall threw four scoreless innings in relief Friday night against one of the top offenses in the country, but No. 4 LSU won the series opener with a 4-1 win against No. 23 Kentucky at Tiger Park.

Fall came into the game in the bottom of the third inning, and threw the remainder of the game, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts, both of the looking variety. She threw 59 pitches in her outing with only one walk charged to her. Sydney Langdon got the start for UK as she threw the opening two innings, allowing four runs, all earned on five hits and striking out a pair of batters.

LSU with the win, improves to 25-1 on the season and is now 1-0 in Southeastern Conference play, as Friday night marked the SEC opener for the Tigers. Kentucky is now 17-8 and 3-1 in the league. The series is scheduled to continue Saturday at 6 p.m. ET with the broadcast on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. There is inclement weather that is expected to move into the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area overnight, so the time may change and fans are asked to check UKathletics.com for updates throughout the day if there are changes.

Offensively, Sydney Berzon allowed only four Kentucky hits with Ally Hutchins, Cassie Reasner, Karissa Hamilton and Delani Sullivan all tallying hits in the contest. McKenzie Bump recorded an RBI sac fly into shallow center in the top of the third inning for UK’s only run of the game.

Key Play

The key play in the game Friday was a two-RBI double by McKenzie Redoutey in the bottom of the first inning to score a pair of runs with two outs to make the score balloon from 1-0 to 3-0.

Key Player

Carson Fall was Kentucky’s key player, going 4.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Super Stat

  1. Kentucky turned its first double play of the season Friday night as Peyton Plotts caught a lineout to right field and threw out the runner at first base on a bullet to Lauryn Borzilleri to end the Tiger threat in the bottom of the fifth.

LSU scored its fourth run in the bottom of the second inning on an RIB single up the middle and then Karissa Hamilton got a runner out at home as LSU tried to score a second, but Hamilton tagged her out to record the second out of the inning. LSU 4, UK 0

With Hallie Mitchell leading the third off with a walk, she got to third and scored on a McKenzie Bump RBI sac fly to shallow left center. FINAL – LSU 4, Kentucky 1
