Borzilleri’s Five-RBI Day Sends No. 23 Kentucky Past Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Lauryn Borzilleri pelted three RBI hits, including a pair of two-RBI doubles and an RBI single Wednesday afternoon as No. 23 Kentucky run-ruled the Lipscomb Bisons 9-0 in six innings.
Stephanie Schoonover pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out nine batters and walking just two as the Bisons only recorded three hits all afternoon and a Lipscomb runner never got to third in the contest. With the win, Schoonover improves to 9-3 on the season in the circle and dropped her season ERA to 1.53 after Wednesday’s performance.
Kentucky had 17 hits on the afternoon, a new season-high figure with two or more hits in five of the six innings played. UK put up crooked numbers in three innings, the second, third and sixth as the Wildcats had one of their best offensive outputs of the season.
Kentucky will turn around this weekend and host the 2024 John Cropp Classic in Lexington, which has had an altered schedule and will begin Thursday with games at 3 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET. Ohio State will play South Dakota State at 3 p.m. followed by Kentucky facing the Jackrabbits at 6 p.m. ET.
UK improves to 15-7 on the year with the win. Lipscomb falls to 10-15.

Peyton Plotts’ two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Wildcats into run-rule territory with one out and one on as she blasted her fourth home run of the season to straight-away center and off the tree trunks that line the centerfield wall.

Lauryn Borzilleri was the key player in the game, going 3-for-3 with two two-RBI doubles a career-high five runs batted in and she didn’t leave a single runner on base the entire evening.

Kentucky scored three runs in the top of the second inning off of five hits. Lauryn Borzilleri drove in the first two of her five runs on a double into left center to score Jenna Blanton who led off the inning with a single and Margaret Tobias, who reached on a bunt. The third run was driven in by senior Rylea Smith on single up the middle to plate Borzilleri. UK 3, LU 0
In the top of the third, Borzilleri drove in another pair of runs on a double to left as Blanton and Hallie Mitchell scored on the play with two outs. UK 5, LU 0
Borzilleri’s fifth RBI came on a hard-hit single to score Vanessa Nesby in the top of the fifth after Nesby led off the inning with a single. UK 6, LU 0
Cassie Reasner had an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning and Peyton Plotts hammered a home run to push No. 23 Kentucky over the top as the Wildcats plated three in the frame. FINAL – Kentucky 9, Lipscomb 0
