Kentucky Hosts Georgetown College in Exhibition Action on Friday

Exhibition season for the Kentucky men’s basketball team continues on Friday night as the Cats host Georgetown College inside Rupp Arena (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network).

The Cats played their Blue-White game at Truist Arena in Highland Heights on Saturday, with the Blue squad prevailing 100-89. Freshman guard Rob Dillingham stole the show in that game, scoring 40 points for the Blue team, dishing out seven assists, grabbing five rebounds and adding four steals.

Fellow freshman Justin Edwards caught fire in the second half of the Blue-White and finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Adou Thiero also had 26 points, while freshman D.J. Wagner had 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

West Virginia transfer Tre Mitchell had a double-double for the Cats with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Burks had 20 points while Antonio Reeves scored 17 for the White team.

The Cats are ranked 16th in the country in the preseason in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. Kentucky was picked to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference by the media at SEC Media Days. Edwards was named preseason first team All-SEC, with Reeves being chosen to the second team.

Kentucky now turns its attention to Georgetown, an NAIA school from 15 miles north of Lexington. The Tigers aren’t just any NAIA program. Georgetown has won three NAIA national championships, including two under current head coach Chris Briggs. The former UK graduate assistant led Georgetown to titles in 2013 and 2019. Last season, Georgetown was 30-6 and lost in the Fab Four, just one step away from the national championship game.

Friday’s exhibition game will be the first of two for the Cats. UK will take on Kentucky State on Nov. 2 before opening the regular season against New Mexico State on Nov. 6.
