Kentucky Beats Georgetown in Fall Exhibition

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats Softball team continued its fall ball season against Georgetown College with an impressive game Thursday night, beating the Tigers, 17-0 in five innings.

The Wildcats started off the game strong with a double play at first base to get the game off to a good start defensively. Then, just three batters into the bottom of the first inning, Kentucky’s Rylea Smith hit a triple and brought in Vanessa Nesby and Erin Coffel for the first score of the game. The Wildcats went on a 14-0 run and batted around the order twice in the first inning alone.

Sophomore Taylor Hess opened up the exhibition game for the Wildcats in the circle, pitching three inning and logging two strikeouts. Sophomore Langdon took over for the remaining two innings of the game and notched five strikeouts on eight batters faced.

After going up 14-0 in the first inning the Wildcats continued to build on their lead with an inside the park home run coming from Hallie Mitchell. One inning later Delani Sullivan singled and brought in two more runs to build the lead to 17-0 which sealed off the scoring for the rest of the game.

Key Play
Rylea Smith hit a triple giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead bringing in Vanessa Nesby and Erin Coffel. Smith went 1-for-1 on the night with an RBI double.

Key Player
Sydney Langdon pitched a pair scoreless innings to help the Wildcats secure a 17-0 win. Langdon faced eight batters and had five strikeouts in two innings.

18. Kentucky batted around twice in the first inning, sending 18 batters to the plate in the opening frame.

Rylea Smith hit a triple that scored Vanessa Nesby and Erin Coffel for the first runs of the game. Grace Lorsung then roped a single up the second base gap and that allowed Rylea Smith and Ally Hutchins to score as UK doubled its lead. Meeko Harrison then singled and Grace Lorsung scored with Karissa Hamilton advancing to second. Emory Donaldson doubled, allowing Karissa Hamilton to score. Emory Donaldson, Margaret Tobias, and Vanessa Nesby scored off of a left-field gap double from freshman Cassie Reasner. Delani Sullivan’s tripled to center to score Reasner and balloon the UK lead to 11-0. Ally Hutchins then singled to left field and brought in Delani Sullivan. Erica Thulen continued the UK hit parade with a single up the middle, allowing Hutchins to score. Taylor Ebbs got in on the action, hitting a triple into the right-center gap. She brought in Peyton Plotts and Karissa Hamilton. UK 14, GC 0

In the bottom of the second, Hallie Mitchell hits an inside-the-park home run. UK 15, GC 0

In the bottom of the third, Delani Sullivan singles allowing Camryn Lookadoo and Hallie Mitchell to score. UK 17, GC 0 (5)
