LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alex Goff, a senior on the Kentucky men’s golf team, will participate in the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase Monday at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. The 18-hole pro-am style event features golfers, alumni/donors and PGA TOUR professionals representing a university. Participating in his third Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase, Goff will tee it up with former Wildcat J.B. Holmes.
First held in 2015 and being played for the ninth time in 2023, the event provides an opportunity for a collegiate golfer to play their way into the Genesis Invitational field while allowing universities to compete for a $50,000 donation to support their golf program.
Former Wildcat Lukas Euler carded a 4-under-par 67 to win the amateur event in 2019 before narrowly missing the cut in his PGA TOUR debut later in the week.
Debuting in 1926 at Los Angeles Country Club as the Los Angeles Open, the PGA Tour Genesis Open was staged at various courses throughout the Los Angeles area before permanently settling at The Riviera Country Club in 1973. Known as the site of Jack Nicklaus’ professional debut, Tiger Woods’ first PGA tournament and with 25 champions in the World Golf Hall of Fame, the course has seen many major moments in golf history.
Goff, who has 31 career starts under his belt as a Wildcat, leads the team with a 71.87 scoring average in the 2022-23 campaign. The senior has four top 20 finishes and is coming off a second-place finish last week at the Battle at Briar’s Creek. Goff has nine rounds of par or better, including a team-best eight under-par. Of his 15 rounds played this season, 13.3 have counted toward the team tally.
The Cats return to team competition Feb.27-March 1 at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada. The event marks the second of five spring team events prior to the SEC Championship at the Seaside Course in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, in mid-April.
