Kentucky Women’s Tennis Tops Miami Ohio on Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team took down Miami Ohio in a 5-2 decision on Sunday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex, capping off a successful opening weekend of the 2022 season and moving to 3-0 on the year. 

The duo of Carlota Molina and Lidia Gonzalez started the match by taking care of business on the third court, defeating Sara Zalukar and Sarah Dev in a 6-2 decision in doubles play. Florencia Urrutia and Fiona Arrese teamed up on court one to take down No. 43 Brindtha Ramasamy and Laura Rico, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for Kentucky.

Following their impressive clinch in doubles, Urrutia and Arrese claimed the first two singles points for the Wildcats. Urrutia bested Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek 6-1, 6-3 on court four while Arrese posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Zalukar on the third court. 

Gonzalez earned her first clinching point of her Wildcat career. Playing in the fifth position, the freshman defeated Dev with a score of 6-1, 6-1 to give the match to Kentucky.

After deciding to finish out the match, Ellie Eades picked up another singles victory while playing in the sixth spot. Eades, who clinched UK’s second match on Friday, defeated Nishitha Saravanan 6(7), 6-1, 6-3.

The Wildcats face their first road test on Friday, Jan. 21 when they travel to South Bend, Indiana, for a matchup with Notre Dame at the Courtney Tennis Center. First serve is slated at 5 p.m.
