NORMAN, Okla. – The SEC Tournament’s No. 15 seeded Kentucky women’s tennis (9-16, 1-14 SEC) end their season in the first round after falling to the No. 10 seeded Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday, 4-0.

Prior to the match, Kentucky senior Zoe Hammond was honored with her SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year trophy, as announced earlier Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference.

Play opened with doubles as No. 9 Andrea Nova and Emily Welker defeated Hammond and Asuncion Jadue, 6-2.

The Rebels followed with another victory on court two, where Riley Crowder and Alice Soulie topped Julia Zhu and Marina Fuduric, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

The doubles match on court three featuring Ellie Myers and Donna Le Roux was left unfinished following the clinch.

The Wildcats headed into singles play trailing 1-0 and forced a battle early. However, as the match proceeded, the Rebels found themselves growing in the lead. On court one, No. 76 Hammond was defeated by No. 19 Welker, 6-1, 6-1.

On court four, Kentucky’s Elena Molla fell to Andrea Nova, 6-4, 6-4, as Ole Miss extended the lead to three.

Clinching the match for Ole Miss was Riley Crowder, who defeated Elena Molla, 6-3, 6-3.

On court two, Zhu won the first set 7-5 in an intense battle before her match went unfinished in the second set. Matches featuring Myers on court six and Jadue on court five were unfinished as well.
