No. 3 Kentucky Travels to Georgia for Weekend Showdown in Athens

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 3 Kentucky Volleyball team will head south to Athens, Georgia this weekend for a two-match Southeastern Conference series with the Georgia Bulldogs spanning Saturday to Sunday with both games at 3 p.m. ET.

Both games of the two-match set will be streamed live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Kaleb Frady and Nikki Chester on the call from Stegeman Coliseum in Athens.

Live stats will also be available for both matches by accessing GeorgiaDogs.com.

Kentucky enters the weekend sitting 10-0 on the season, ranked No. 3 in the country and in first place alone in the SEC with a two-match cushion on Missouri and Florida. The Wildcats are one of just three teams in the nation who have achieved double-digit wins this season, joining Texas and Baylor who also competed in fall action.

UK leads the all-time series with Georgia 45-26, also having won nine of the last 10 matches against the Bulldogs. UGA was one of just two SEC teams to knock off the Wildcats a season ago en route to UK’s SEC championship title. The two teams split the season series in 2019 with UGA winning in Lexington and the Wildcats returning the favor with a 3-0 sweep in Athens.

The last time UK took the floor was two weeks ago at Arkansas, when UK swept the Razorbacks to begin the spring part of the 2020-21 season. The Wildcats defense was suffocating, registering double-digit blocks in both matches against the potent Arkansas offense and solidified their place atop the SEC standings. Kentucky was on its spring bye week last weekend.

Georgia is 4-6 under the leadership of Tom Black this season. The Bulldogs this past week lost both games of a home series with Arkansas to begin their spring half of the schedule.
