Urrutia Leads Kentucky With Four Wins at Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team competed in its penultimate fall tournament this past weekend, registering a total of 11 wins at the Tennessee Invitational at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville.

“We had a tough weekend in terms of results. However, we are now aware of all the necessary steps to accomplish the goals aligned with our vision,” said head coach Carlos Drada. “We are excited to get back to work this week to prepare for our final fall invitational.”

Florencia Urrutia led the Wildcats with four wins throughout the weekend, including three in singles competition. She defeated Illinois’ Shivani Ingle, 6-4, 6-2, on the first day before besting Wake Forest’s Maddie Lynch, 6-4, 6-2, on day two. The junior also took down MaryAnn Rompf of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(5) on the final day.

Urrutia teamed up with Carlota Molina to defeat Lynch and Saby Nihalani of Wake Forest, 6-4, in doubles on the opening day. Molina also had a solid showing in Knoxville, picking up a pair of victories in singles action.
