No. 12 Kentucky Travels to Auburn For Three-Game Series

by Chris Shoals

AUBURN, Ala. – Following an impressive offensive display, including four home runs and two from Renee Abernathy in a 12-4 win Wednesday night vs. Eastern Kentucky, the No. 12 Kentucky Softball team will travel south to The Plains to dip its toes back into Southeastern Conference waters for a weekend series with the (RV) Auburn Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field.

Kentucky is ranked No. 12 in the nation, and has a 29-8 overall record with one of the hottest bats in the country leading off, in Kayla Kowalik. Kowalik is one run away from breaking the single-season runs scored record at UK (Brittany Cervantes), and also one hit away from tying Katie Reed’s 2016 school record for hit streak (17 games). Over the last eight games, Kowalik is batting an unworldly .692 (18-26).

Kentucky swept Auburn in the team’s last meeting at the end of the 2019 season in Lexington. Auburn in 2021 is 23-12 on the year with a 3-9 mark in the first half of its SEC schedule under the direction of fourth-year head coach Mickey Dean.

Friday night’s game will start at 6 p.m. ET, with Saturday’s game at Noon ET and Sunday’s series finale to commence at 2 p.m. ET. Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on the SEC Network with Mark Neely and Kayla Braud on the call.
