No. 10 Kentucky Faces Louisville on Wednesday Night

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a year of not playing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the No. 10 Kentucky Softball team and Louisville will restore the Battle of the Bluegrass on Wednesday night, as the Wildcats travel to the Derby City to take on the Cardinals at 7 p.m. ET.

The game is the first of a home-and-home this season, as UL will return the trip to Lexington on April 21 in two weeks time. Wednesday night’s game from Ulmer Stadium will be broadcasted live on the ACC Network Extra, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.

Kentucky enters the week still inside the top-10 of the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association top-25 poll, slotting in at No. 10 in a tie with Arkansas. UK is 27-6 on the season, 4-5 in the brutal Southeastern Conference and was positioned No. 22 in Tuesday’s release of the NCAA RPI.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Holly Aprile, Louisville is 13-15 so far on the season and sits 7-10 in the ACC after taking three of four games over the Easter Weekend at Pittsburgh.

The all-time series between UL and UK is tied at 20-20, with Louisville winning the last match-up between the two sides back in 2019 in walk-off fashion. The win snapped UK’s four-game winning streak against the Cards.
