No. 7 Kentucky Heads to Rocky Top to Face No. 18 Tennessee

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 7 Kentucky Softball team will look to take its recent wave of momentum on the road with it this weekend as it heads to Rocky Top for a three-game Southeastern Conference series with the No. 21/18 Tennessee Lady Vols.

All three games will be televised with Friday (5 p.m. ET) and Sunday’s (2 p.m. ET) games on ESPNU and Saturday’s game (6 p.m. ET) airing on ESPN2. The Women’s College World Series broadcast team of Beth Mowins and two-time Olympic gold medalist Michele Smith will have the call.

Tennessee is 26-5 on the season with a 2-4 record in Southeastern Conference play. On SEC opening weekend, LSU took two of three from Tennessee in Knoxville and the second SEC series for the Lady Vols was the same result against No. 3 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. UT was off from SEC play this past weekend and had a tournament cancelled due to weather in the area. The Lady Vols are riding a three-game winning streak, as they beat Furman twice on Monday and Liberty on Tuesday afternoon in a trio of midweek games.

Kentucky will be looking to win a series in Knoxville for the first time in program history, as UK has never emerged from Rocky Top as series champions. The closest UK has been was a doubleheader split back when the SEC played midweek doubleheaders during the 2001 season.

Kentucky’s potent offense continued to shine on Wednesday night in a 13-1 win over Morehead State as freshman Erin Coffel hit her school freshman record-tying 12th home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning. Coffel is now just one home run away from breaking the school’s freshman record for home runs in a season which she currently co-holds with Amber Janneck in 2004.
