Western Kentucky Walks Off No. 7 Kentucky, 2-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky got a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday night to beat No. 7 Kentucky in extra innings at the WKU Softball Complex.
 
WKU had the lead for a majority of the night, before UK tied the game on an Erin Coffel sacrifice fly to score Kayla Kowalik in the top of the seventh inning, which extended the game.
 
The loss is just Kentucky’s third of the season, and snaps UK’s streak of 30-straight non-conference games with a win. WKU has now won two in a row in the series against Kentucky.
 
Kentucky will play No. 3 Alabama on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at John Cropp Stadium. The series starts on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on the SEC Network+.

12. Kentucky left 12 runners on base Wednesday night, a new season high.
 
Key Player
Kayla Kowalik was the key player in the game going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring the game-tying run in the top of the seventh inning. Her lead-off triple set the tone for the inning as it put the tying run on third with nobody out.
 
Key Play
The key play in the game was Erin Coffel’s sacrifice fly to shallow center to score Kowalik, who beat the throw home and tie the game in the seventh.
