No. 9 Kentucky Opens Home Slate vs. EKU, Travels to WKU
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 9 Kentucky Softball team opens its home slate of games on Tuesday night, welcoming the Eastern Kentucky Colonels to John Cropp Stadium for a 6 p.m. ET showdown on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.
Tuesday night’s tilt will be UK’s first of two midweek games, as the Wildcats will play at Western Kentucky on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET in Bowling Green.
Live stats links will be available on UKathletics.com for both games, as well as links to both broadcasts, as Wednesday night’s game at WKU will stream live on Facebook.
Tickets are extremely limited, so fans interested in attending should look to purchase tickets now at UKathletics.com/tickets before supplies run out. As with all UK Athletics events this season, masks are required for all fans, and social distancing is being taken into accounts with the seating bowl at John Cropp Stadium’s reduced capacity.
Kentucky (20-2, 1-2 SEC) is off to a hot start, including a win over No. 5 Florida in a nine-inning game on Sunday, 4-2. The Wildcats continue to have a prolific offense, leading the Southeastern Conference in a multitude of different categories, but it was the pitching that was so impressive on the weekend. Autumn Humes went over 13 innings on Friday and Sunday, allowing just three earned runs to the potent Gator attack, as she picked up Sunday’s win to move to 9-1 on the season.
Kentucky leads the all-time series with Eastern Kentucky 25-7, having won the last 14 in a row dating back to 2006. Head coach Rachel Lawson, who just picked up her 30th win at Kentucky over a top-five team on Sunday at No. 5 Florida, is 13-0 all-time against the Colonels.
Western Kentucky knocked off the top-15 Wildcats in Lexington back in 2019, the last time these two teams played. UK however holds the all-time series lead with the Toppers at 16-7. For three seasons, Rachel Lawson was the head coach at Western Kentucky before making the jump north to Lexington. Lawson was 92-84 in her three years in Bowling Green and continues to play the Hilltoppers every year alternating venues each season.
