Katie Reed Ties UK Record with Six RBI in 8-0 Win over Miss. St.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Katie Reed, who was named a Senior CLASS Award finalist on Thursday afternoon, tied a Kentucky softball record with six RBI in Friday’s game, hitting two home runs as the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats beat Mississippi State, 8-0, to open a three-game series.
 
Reed hit home runs in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the third innings, both three-run shots to break her career highs for both home runs and RBI in a game. It was the 34th time in program history that a Kentucky player hit two homers in the same game.
 
Game two of the series will be on Saturday at Noon ET from John Cropp Stadium. The game will be televised live on the SEC Network with Pam Ward and Jenny Dalton-Hill on the call.
 
In the circle, Autumn Humes got the win, throwing a complete-game shutout in the circle for UK. Humes has now thrown 13.2 scoreless innings to open up Southeastern Conference play. Her record moves to 6-4. The Bulldogs’ Grace Fagan picks up the loss and falls to 3-3.

6. The six RBI for Katie Reed tied Nikki Sagermann, Griffin Joiner, Leslie Kwiatkowski, Brooke Marnitz and Rachel Riley for the most in a single game in UK history.
 
1:19. Friday night was UK’s quickest game of the season, lasting just 1:19 in duration.
 
Key Play
Mallory Peyton’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the first to score Kayla Kowalik was the key play in the game, as it crossed the winning run.

Katie Reed was the key player, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two three-run home runs.
 
Run Recap
With runners on the corners and two outs, Mallory Peyton hit a single to left field to score Kowalik and put the Wildcats up, 1-0. That was followed by a tape-measure shot by Katie Reed to left field to put UK up 4-0 after one. UK 4, MSU 0
 
In the bottom of the third, a Mississippi State fielding error plated a run before Reed blasted another three-run shot to straight-away CF to score three more. FINAL – Kentucky 8, Mississippi State 0
