Kentucky Women’s Soccer Draws 0-0 with Western Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky.– Kentucky (0-0-2) drew, 0-0, with Western Kentucky (1-0-1) on Sunday afternoon. A strong performance from freshman goalkeeper Steph Stull was the difference in keeping the game scoreless throughout.
It was a good showing from the Wildcats defensively with the backline of Caroline Trout, Rebekka Danielsen, Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Lisa Blankestein holding strong throughout the match, limiting the Hilltoppers to only two shots on goal. Stull made several key stops in the entirety of the match as well.
Though the attacking unit for UK was kept quiet for much of the game, there were a few bright spots in the 110 minutes. The play of freshmen forwards Hannah Richardson and Jordyn Rhodes looked lively a few times and they may be a duo to keep an eye on as the pair develop while at Kentucky.
Looking forward, the Wildcats now travel to George Mason on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
Head Coach Ian Carry:
“(Today) was a solid defensive performance,” Kentucky head coach Ian Carry said. “I think that the defense looked a lot more solid as if they had been playing a longer period of time together. But, five shots on goal in 110 minutes, we need better productivity in the box. Overall, very happy defensively, but a little bit disappointed with how we retained the ball in possession. We’ll get back on the practice field and work on that, tweak a couple of things and build towards George Mason on Thursday.”
