Cats Return Home for Battle with No. 12 Virginia

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After splitting ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 1-1 record, Kentucky (4-2) returns to the Bluegrass State for its first match in seven days in a homecoming with No. 12 Virginia (4-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

“(Virginia) is a very well-coached team with a lot of talent and depth,” said UK assistant coach Matthew Gordon. “It’s going to be a hard-fought match and a battle from beginning to end. I’m really looking forward to seeing our boys compete out there.”

Despite opening the season with four consecutive wins and a 1-0 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, Virginia enters Sunday on the heels of its first loss last Friday at No. 13 Notre Dame.

Kentucky has faced an ACC opponent in four of its last five matches, beginning on Jan. 19 when the Fighting Irish handed the Cats their first defeat of the season.

Ryo Matsumura led UK with a personally undefeated performance last weekend versus Dartmouth and VIriginia Tech, picking up two top-30 singles wins en route to being named the season’s first Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.

Kentucky defeated the Cavaliers 4-1 last season, handing Virginia just its sixth home loss since 2006.
