Kentucky Travels to Face No. 22 Ohio State Thursday

by Karlie Kinneer

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue its non-conference schedule on Thursday, traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 22 Ohio State at 5 p.m. ET. The match will serve as Kentucky’s first road dual of the season.

The Buckeyes (1-1) are a slightly familiar foe for the Wildcats this season, as Kentucky saw OSU in action earlier this month at the Miami Spring Invite. Kentucky (3-1) recorded a 4-3 mark in singles play and a 2-1 edge in doubles action against Ohio State at the event.

Both teams are coming off stints in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The two programs each were selected as regional hosts for the event, but both fell short of advancing on to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

Ohio State is coming off a 4-2 loss to Wake Forest, which was the championship match of the regional. The Buckeyes won the doubles point in the match, clinching the early lead with wins on courts one and three. The only OSU played to pick up a win in singles was No. 80 Shiori Fukuda.

UK most recently earned a 4-2 victory over NC State in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend consolation match. Kentucky gave up the doubles point, but came back to earn wins on courts No. 1-4 in singles to close the weekend on a good note.

Kentucky will return home Sunday morning, welcoming No. 16 Baylor to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. First serve in the match is set for 10 a.m.
