Masterton Breaks School Record as UK Wraps Miami Diving Invitational

Masterton Breaks School Record as UK Wraps Miami Diving Invitational

by Karlie Kinneer

OXFORD, Ohio. – The Kentucky divers completed a successful weekend at the Miami Diving Invitational on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a school record score of 423.10 from junior Seb Masterton to win the men’s 1-meter competition.

“Overall, it was a really good meet against some great competition,” said head diving coach Ted Hautau. “On the first day, we did well on platform and had a number of people make their zone cuts. On day two, Seb was outstanding in both prelims and finals on 1-meter, breaking the school record and winning handily. Everybody as a whole dove well and I was pleased, especially coming off Thanksgiving break and the Ohio State Invite. So, based on where we’re at I was really happy with them.”

The three-day meet followed a two-part format, competing in prelims in the morning before finals in the events. However, a unique aspect of the meet stated that one school could only have two representatives in the finals.

Masterton’s first-place finish on 1-meter was the lone win for the Wildcats on the weekend, breaking Greg Ferrucci’s mark of 422.70 which was set in 2013.

Despite Masterton getting the only win, multiple Kentucky divers had top-five finishes on the weekend. For the men’s team, freshman Chase Lane finished third on platform and sophomore Kevin Frebel was fifth on 3-meter.

For the women, junior Courtney Clark had two top-five finishes, taking fourth on platform and fifth in the 3-meter competition.
