Jonathan Rom Sets School Record, Kentucky Swim & Dive Concludes Tennessee Invitational
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Kentucky junior Jonathan Rom broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke, twice, to conclude the Tennessee Invitational. His time of 1:54.16 in the 200 breast final was improved from his record setting 1:54.56 in the prelim and shot Rom to the top of the Kentucky record book.
Nine additional Wildcats, including Rom, posted NCAA B-Standard times at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center this evening while Carson Hick picked up his second win of the win, taking the 1650 free in 14:43.70. Despite the record and win, Kentucky fell to Tennessee 274-114 and Virginia 226-159. The women fell to the Volunteers 304-84 and the Cavaliers 282-105.
NCAA B-cuts came from Torie Beurger, Grace Frericks, Szymon Mieczkowski, and Devin Naoroz in the 200 backstroke while Bridget Engel, Rom, and Adomas Gatulis had a B-cut in the 200 breast. Billie Sherratt and Ryan Merani finished the week in Knoxville with B-cuts in the 200 fly.
The Wildcats will take a break from dual action and will now prepare for the Toyota U.S. Open and USA Diving Nationals next month.
