McDaniel, Stallings Tabbed All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Okla. – Kentucky men’s golfers Tyler “Chip” McDaniel and Stephen Stallings were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America for maintaining a strong grade-point average and performing at a high level in competition.
To be eligible for the Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds and have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I.
The duo started in all 11 events during each of the last two seasons. Combined they have competed in 68 tournaments and played nearly 200 rounds in their collegiate careers. McDaniel earned 2016 PING Third-Team All-America honors in 2016 in addition to All-Southeastern Conference accolades. Stallings was tabbed to the SEC Community Service Team in 2017.
On the academic front, they helped guide UK to a GCAA President’s Special Recognition honor for the team owning a 3.5 or better average this past season. They have both been tabbed to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in every year of their careers. Stallings is a 2017 graduate with an economics degree.
McDaniel logged a team-low 71.8 stroke average in 2016-17. He posted five top-10 finishes and seven top-20s. His best tournament of the season was a third-place showing at the Steelwood Intercollegiate. Stallings posted a 73.5 stroke average with four top-20 finishes. His best finish was a tie for seventh at the Bearcat Invitational.
