Jacob Lang Finishes NCAA Championship at Even Par
CARSLBAD, Calif. – An incredible postseason run came to a close for Jacob Lang on Sunday night as the Kentucky men’s golf sophomore finished 54 holes of stroke play at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course (par 72, 7,538 yards) in even par, falling two shots off the cutline to advance to Monday’s final round.
The cut fell at 2-under par for the top nine golfers on teams outside the top 15 of the team leaderboard. Lang was tied for 47th among the 151 players to complete 54 holes in college golf’s most elite field.
The native of Alvaton, Kentucky posted rounds of 70 (-2), 73 (+1) and 73 (+1) for a 216 (E) tournament total. He made eight total birdies, six bogeys and one double bogey.
“I’m super proud of Lang and his NCAA run,” head coach Gator Todd said. “I walked every step with him this week and he played outstanding tee to green. His putter ultimately cut his run short. Being inside the top 20 with three holes to go today shows what he is capable of. We’re excited about the future of our program. We have some great young people to build this thing with.”
Starting his final round on hole No. 10, Lang was 2-under on his Sunday through his first 15 holes and inside the cutline at 3-under total. Unfortunately, he made a double bogey on the difficult No. 7 (par 4, 521 yards), followed by a bogey on No. 8 (par 3, 203 yards) to fall back to even par.
Even so, it was a strong showing among the nation’s top talent for the Kentucky sophomore, who finishes the year with a 72.11 scoring average and 17 rounds at par-or-better.
Lang was the first Wildcat to compete at the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship since 2018 when the team last qualified.
