Brittany Cervantes Re-Signs With Chicago Bandits

CHICAGO, Ill. – Brittany Cervantes, an all-time great Kentucky softball alumna, re-signed with the Chicago Bandits of the National Professional Fastpitch Association to a one-year contract extension, it was announced on Wednesday. The announcement came after being named the 2015 NPF Offensive Player of the Year.
During her time with the Bandits, Cervantes has been called up on to play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield before becoming the everyday first basemen in 2014. Cervantes began last season at first base before eventually finishing the season splitting time as the team’s right fielder and designated player.
“Cerv had one of the most impressive offensive seasons in NPF history and we’re beyond excited to have her back in a Bandits uniform for her fifth season,” said Bandits GM Aaron M. Moore.  “She began her career as an undrafted free agent and has continued to work extremely hard on her game to become the league’s offensive player of the year.
“Our lineup continues to evolve and take shape with the addition of Brittany.  She provides some big-time pop and protection for the speed in our lineup.”
The Newhall, Calif. native enjoyed her finest professional season to date in 2015 as she set career highs in batting average (.358), runs scored (26), hits (38), doubles (6), slugging percentage (.670) and on-base percentage (.507). Her numbers at the plate earned her Offensive Player of the Year honors at the annual NPF Awards Banquet.
“I want to thank Bill and Aaron for continuing to give me the opportunity to play,” said Cervantes. “Last summer was one I will never forget and I can’t wait to get back out there and compete for another championship with my family in orange and black.”
For her career, Cervantes has slugged 29 homeruns and driven in 88.  She also owns a career batting average of .265.
Cervantes, 25, recently signed with Team Toda of the Japan Softball League. She will play overseas before returning to the Bandits this summer.
