Each week, Wildcats in the Pros catches up with some former Kentucky student-athletes who are doing big things in professional athletics. 

Former Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan will make his second Super Bowl appearance as he and the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

The Broncos defeated the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship last Sunday. Trevathan and his Broncos beat the New England Patriots 20-18 to earn the AFC Championship. Trevathan combined for five tackles and one pass breakup as Denver eliminated last season’s Super Bowl champions.

Super Bowl 50 will be played on Sunday, Feb. 7th at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The game will be televised nationally on CBS with a scheduled kickoff time of 6:30 p.m. ET.

DeMarcus Cousins, a former Wildcat center and the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, is currently in his sixth NBA season. And this week has been one that Cousins will never forget.

Despite losing to the Charlotte Hornets in double overtime on Monday night, the Kings’ starting center had many reasons to celebrate. Cousins scored a career-high 56 points in the game, the most by any player in a game in the NBA this season. He became the fourth player in NBA history to have at least 100 points and 25 rebounds over a two-game span , after scoring 48 points against the Indiana Pacers in his previous outing.

Through Tuesday night, Cousins is third in the NBA in scoring (27.3 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (11.2 rpg). 

Former Kentucky golfer J.B. Holmes returns to the PGA Tour this weekend when he tees it up in the Farmers Insurance Open.

The tournament will be held at the legendary Torrey Pines Golf Club outside of San Diego. Holmes tied for second in this event last season.

This will be Holmes’ second tournament of 2016. He finished in a tie for 24th at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii three weeks ago.

Holmes, a native of Campbellsville, Ky., is currently ranked 25th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Former Kentucky baseball All-American A.J. Reed has been named the top prospect among first basemen in all of the minor leagues, according to MLB Pipeline.

Last season, Reed led all minor leaguers in home runs (34), RBIs (127), slugging percentage (.612), OPS (1.044), runs (113) and total bases (320). He was named the Class A Advanced California League Most Valuable Player in the process.

Reed, who was also named the 2015 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year, continues his rise through the Houston Astros organization. Some analysts project Reed to make his major league debut in 2016, although that has not been confirmed by the Astros.
