LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former UK men’s basketball All-American John Wall has been nominated for two categories at the 2010 ESPY Awards, which will be held July 14.

Fans can go online to www.espn.com/espys and vote for Wall in the category of “Breakthrough Athlete of the Year” and “Best Male College Athlete of the Year.”

In the category of “Breakthrough Athlete of the Year,” Wall, the 2010 Adolph Rupp National Player of the Year, will be going against Brittney Griner (Baylor women’s basketball), Chris Johnson (NFL’s Tennessee Titans) and Stephen Strasburg (MLB’s Washington Nationals).

In the category of “Best Male College Athlete,” Wall is going against Blake Geoffrion (Wisconsin hockey), Mark Ingram (Alabama football), Evan Turner (Ohio State basketball) and Garrett Wittels (Florida International Baseball).

Wall became the first player in the illustrious history of the UK basketball program to receive any one of the primary national player of the year awards, winning the 2010 Adolph Rupp Trophy. The 6-foot-4 freshman led the Wildcats in scoring (16.6), assists (6.5) and steals (1.8). He set all-time UK freshman records in scoring, assists and free throws made.

He broke the UK single-game assist record with 16 and finished his freshmen year with 241 assists, breaking the UK single-season assist mark of 232 set back in 1986.

The Raleigh, N.C. native had five double-doubles on the season, three in points and assists and two in points in rebounds, making him the first player in UK history to record double-doubles in points and rebounds and points and assists.

The 2010 ESPYs will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
