Knoxville, Tenn. – Four University of Kentucky swimmers participated in the Summer Speedo Championship Series in Knoxville this weekend. Jenna Newsome highlighted the event for the Wildcats with wins in both the 50- and 100-freestyle.

Newsome led three UK swimmers in the top-12 with her first place showing in the 50-free. Newsome tapped in a time of 26.34, a career-best clip and a time that qualifies for the US Open Championships.

Mandy Myers also recorded a top-eight finish when she clocked in a time of 26.84 for sixth place overall. Her time was also a career-best finish.

Rounding out the top-12 finishes was Kayla Sergesketter who notched a 12th place finish in a time of 27.21, also a career-best time.

Newsome also captured the 100-free in stylish fashion by capturing the final event of the weekend for the Blue and White. Newsome came in with a time of 57.77 for her second first place finish of the weekend. Myers and Sergesketter also earned top-10 finishes in the event.

Myers took sixth in a time of 58.64 and Sergesketter placed 10th with a clip of 58.36. Sergesketter was second in the “B” final with that time.

On Friday night, all three women came back in a flurry with a second consecutive evening of three UK swimmers placing in the top-12.

In the 200-free, Myers led the way with a fourth-place showing in a time of 2:06.39.

Sergesketter scored the best time in the finals but narrowly missed being in the “A’ final in the preliminary heats.
