LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Kentucky volleyball players Queen Nzenwa and Sarah Mendoza combined for 21 kills as the UK volleyball team dominated Morehead State to conclude its spring slate Friday at Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky earned wins by the score of: 25-13, 25-12, 25-19, to finish the spring season with an impressive 6-1 record.
The match between the two in-state schools highlighted the UK coaches? clinic put on by the Kentucky staff featuring numerous impressive guests. Kathy DeBoer of the AVCA, Jamie Gordon of Morehead State and Mike Lingenfelter of the Munciana 18-1 Samurai are all scheduled to present in addition to the Kentucky coaching staff.
Nzenwa tallied 10 kills at an impressive .429 hitting percentage. Mendoza led the team with 11 attacking kills, while Lauren Rapp contributed eight kills on the night. Sarah Rumely dished out 29 assists and also had five kills to go with an all-around team effort on the night.
Seven UK players registered four or more digs in the three games to help guide a stellar defensive effort. Mendoza led the way with 10 scoops, while BriAnne Sauer chipped in with nine. Nzenwa and Rumely each recorded seven a piece. Alisa Piece had six, with Rapp and Ann Armes totaling four each.
The coaches? clinic continues tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. start. Featured speakers for the remainder of the event include: Craig Skinner, Mike Lingenfelter, Robert Pulliza and Kathy DeBoer. The event will conclude with a Wildcat practice.
