The Kentucky football team, champion of the 2007 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, will be honored before Saturday?s men?s basketball game against South Carolina.
The team will be recognized during a pregame ceremony at Rupp Arena, immediately after the national anthem. Fans wishing to see the event should be in their seats by 12:45 p.m. The game will tip off shortly after 1 p.m.
Four Wildcats to the Senior Bowl: Four Kentucky players, tailback Rafael Little, tight end Jacob Tamme, quarterback Andr? Woodson, and linebacker Wesley Woodyard, are scheduled to play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 26.
The 59th-annual event, which features top college seniors from around the nation, will be played in Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., at 4 p.m. EST (3 p.m. CST in Mobile). The game will be televised on the NFL Network. The team practices on Jan. 21-25 also will be televised on the NFL Network.
Four players are the most Wildcats ever to play in a Senior Bowl, as three UK players had been in the game following the 1966 and 1992 seasons. This year?s game will bring Kentucky?s all-time total to 28 players who have participated in the event.
Wide receiver Keenan Burton also had planned to play in the Senior Bowl, but had arthroscopic knee surgery following his gutsy performance in UK?s victory in the Music City Bowl. Burton has recovered well and has resumed training, but has decided not to participate in the Senior Bowl.
Lorenzen to the Super Bowl: Former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen is a backup QB for the New York Giants and will participate in Super Bowl XLII against the New England Patriots. The game will be played Sunday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m. and televised by Fox Sports.
Lorenzen?s appearance marks the 33rd time that a former Kentucky player has been on a team that advanced to the Super Bowl that season. The last such Wildcat was Chris Demaree, who was on the reserve squad for the Carolina Panthers team that played in the 2004 Super Bowl. The previous Wildcat to actually see game action in the Super Bowl was defensive back Willie Gary, who played for the St. Louis Rams in the 2002 game.
