LEXINGTON, Ky.? Kentucky women?s swimming coach Gary Conelly announced the addition of Danielle Weiss (Louisville, Ky.) to the 2007-08 class Wednesday.
Weiss? specialty is the backstroke discipline, recording top times of 1:06 in the 100-breast and 2.24 in the 200-breast. The Kentucky native is a member of the National Honor Society, and she will graduate this spring with a 4.0 GPA from Christian Academy of Louisville. Additionally, Weiss is a member of the Louisville Tarpons club squad where she is coached by Joe Slane.
?Danielle Weiss is a much needed and appreciated addition to our incoming freshman list,? said Coach Gary Conelly. ?She is one of best breaststrokers In Kentucky coming out this year, and she will give us a very strong 1-2-3 punch in the breast event. It has been a very gratifying year for us in regards to keeping in-state talent at home in Kentucky. Danielle?s commitment to UK is a significant event that will really let us showcase Kentucky swimmers at the University of Kentucky.?
The incoming rookie is also active in marathons and triathlons. She participated in the Disney Marathon in January, and consistently finishes in the top 10 percent of her age group.
Weiss was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and admitted into Kentucky?s prestigious Honors Program. She has declared pre-med as her major with an emphasis of study in biology.
Weiss will join Lindsey Graessle (Mason, Ohio), Jenna Newsome (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Kayla Sergesketter (Jasper, Ind.) as the women?s incoming class of 2007-08. Graessle, Newsome and Sergesketter signed National Letters of Intent in the fall signing period.
