LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky forward Bernard Cot? has been granted a release from his scholarship, UK Coach Tubby Smith announced Wednesday. The 6-9 Canadian played in 27 games for the Wildcats as a sophomore, averaging 1.4 ppg and 0.4 rpg.

“It?s been a very tough decision for me to make, but I?ve decided it?s in my best interest to explore other options as far as my basketball career is concerned,” Cot? said. “I?ve had an amazing time at Kentucky and have been a part of two truly special teams. I will always look back on my time here as something special, but I?m looking forward to a new beginning. I will definitely miss the coaching staff, fans, and most of all, my teammates.”

“Bernard?s decision certainly came as a surprise to us and we?re sorry to see him go,” Smith said. “We certainly support Bernard?s decision to do what he feels is in his best interest. We honor his wishes and are happy we were able to have him as part of our team through two great seasons.”

The St. Lambert, Quebec native recorded a career-high seven points on 3-for-5 shooting in 12 minutes against Vanderbilt in Lexington this January. He also played in 25 games as a freshman, averaging 0.8 ppg and 0.9 rpg.

Kentucky returns 10 letterwinners next season, including starters Chuck Hayes and Kelenna Azubuike.
