LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UK swimming and diving teams will compete in their first home meet of the 2001-02 season on Saturday, Nov. 3, as the Cats play host to intrastate rival Louisville at 11 a.m. at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
The men (0-4, 0-4 Southeastern Conference) and women (0-4, 0-4 SEC) both enter the dual meet looking for their first victory of the season after having dropped dual meets to both Tennessee and LSU Oct. 19 in Knoxville, Tenn.
This weekend will be the only home meet for UK during the fall season.
“We are excited about having our first home meet,” said UK Coach Gary Conelly. “It is also our parents’ weekend so it is going to be fun to have the team and its extended family here. I am looking forward to seeing many of the new freshmen race for the first time. This is the first meet that all of our team can compete in so it should be lots of fun for everyone.”
Freshmen Daniel Cruz and Chrissy Miller have impressed the UK coaches. Cruz has clocked the best time on the team in the 100 freestyle (47.49), 200 freestyle (1:42.80) and 100 butterfly (51.59). Miller holds this season’s top women’s times in the 100 freestyle (52.86), 200 freestyle (1:52.73) and 1000 freestyle (10:15.86).
The Louisville women enter the weekend at 3-1 while the men own a record of 2-2. Each of the U of L squads will be swimming Friday night at home against Xavier and St. Louis before traveling to Lexington. The Cats have won every meet with Louisville since the 1990-91 season in a rivalry that dates back to 1953.
The UK teams will split up for their next event as the swimmers will compete in the Nike Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., Nov. 15-17 and the divers will travel to the Indiana Invitational Nov. 16-18 in Bloomington, Ind.
