Men's Basketball

“After evaluating the game film from the (Vanderbilt) game on Saturday, I think we played well, shot our threes extremely well, but we still need to improve on things like taking care of the ball better. Tennessee likes to pressure and push the ball up the court. I was pleased with our bench play. Tennessee have improved their defense and offense, and are becoming more comfortable on the court.”

“Tennessee is going to be a real challenge. They are very similar to our team. They are big inside, have the big front line and a lot of bulk. They are one of the top rebounding and shooting teams, especially on free throws. Our stats are very similar. I think it will be a good game for us.”

(On being named the Sportsman of the Year)

“Thank you for naming me ‘Sportsperson of the Year.’ To beat out so many worthy opponents-Tim Couch, Hal Mumme-with such outstanding accomplishments, is really special. I appreciate the opportunity to coach the players from last year and to work with C.M. Newton and President Wethington. It’s an honor to receive this award.”

“Jules (Camara) has really shown flashes of brilliance in his ability to block, take shots and run the floor. He gives some time away in his bulk and size. (Michael Bradley and Jamaal Magloire) are on the court and their minutes are spread between the four and five spots. Jules is not getting as many minutes as he would like, but he is shooting well.”

“Desmond (Allison) has been playing well in the last week. He is shooting well, and finding the opportunity to play the two or three spot. Ryan (Hogan) and Saul (Smith) are playing well, so we utilize them at times. Desmond is a good defensive player and has a good outside shot, taking and making them.”

(On Tennessee’s change to their game since Auburn)

“They were back at home for South Carolina and LSU. It’s always good to have home games for a young team. They are more patient. They weren’t rushing the ball at South Carolina or LSU like they were at Auburn.”

“Tony (Harris) creates problems for any match-up. He is a great player, and one of the most outstanding guards in the country. He has the ability to create opportunities for teammates. Tennessee also has a lot of depth. They can put people in the game to shoot as well as play inside. Guards that look for those shots create problems.”

(On Vincent Yarbrough)

“Vincent could have had an impact on Kentucky, but I never miss anything I’ve never had. He is a talented athlete that has impacted Tennessee.”

(On how Kentucky will improve it’s game)

“We need to contain the penetration better. Scott (Padgett), Heshimu (Evans) and Wayne (Turner) are doing better on defense as a team. We need to be concerned with how to stop (Tony Harris and Vincent Yarbrough), as well as stop the inside.”
