LEXINGTON, Ky. – Matt Kavanagh provisionally qualified in the hammer throw for the NCAAChampionships in Boise, Idaho on June 2-5. His toss of 213 feet, 8 inchesplaced him third in the competition.
In the women’s competition, the 4×100-relay team of Lutisha Shittu,Michelle Williams, Valerie Williams and Shevan Threats placed second in therace.
Shittu and Threats were top finishers in several other events as well.Shittu set a new personal best and finished fifth with a time of 13.74 inthe 100-meter hurdles. Threats finished third in the triple jump with aleap of 41-03.00.
In the shot put competition, Heidi Quast and Suzie von Bernuth finishedsecond and third place, respectively, with throws of 45-08.50 and 44-06.00. von Bernuth also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 151-11.00.Beth Burkett finished in fourth in the javelin throw. She threw theapparatus 133-02.00.
Other top finishers in men’s competition include Scott Theis, who placedsecond in the shot put competition with a throw of 55-2.75, and Jeff Ellis,who finished in third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.19.
