LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky (5-7-2, 0-5-0 SEC) fell, 1-0, to No. 7 South Carolina (11-1-0, 5-0-0 SEC) on Thursday night at The Bell. Despite a strong all-around performance from the Wildcats, a 26th-minute goal from Ryan Gareis was the decider in the one-goal game.

UK started seven freshman and played a total of 11 against a nationally ranked powerhouse in the Gamecocks. Kentucky was strong defensively throughout the game, barring one defensive mishap which led to Gareis firing home to put South Carolina up by a goal, which was all it would need.

Freshmen center backs Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Rebekka Danielsen looked composed all night, while freshman goalkeeper Steph Stull recorded five saves against a Gamecocks attack that had scored 10 goals in their first four SEC games.

Next Match:
Kentucky will travel to play No. 19 Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. The game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ with Kyle Crooks and Matthew Stubbington on the call.
