BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After helping the Kentucky women’s tennis team to an undefeated weekend at home, senior Emily Fanning was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Playing all four matches on the No. 1 court, Fanning went 4-0 this past weekend with all four victories coming over ranked opponents to help the Wildcats to a perfect weekend.

In singles, perhaps the biggest triumph of the weekend came as the senior clinched the team victory over Texas A&M on her Senior Day, picking up a three-set victory over No. 125 Domenica Gonzalez. The Timaru, New Zealand, native also earned in a win in straight sets over No. 121 Ryann Foster from LSU.

Teaming with freshman Lesedi Jacobs in doubles for just the second and third time this season, the pair earned two ranked wins, including a 6-2 victory over No. 36 Golovin/Richardson from LSU. With the two wins, the pair entered this week’s ITA doubles rankings at No. 67. Fanning’s four wins helped Kentucky climb five spots in this week’s team rankings and re-enter the Top 25 from No. 28 to No. 23.

Kentucky will close the regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to No. 10 Florida on Thursday and No. 7 South Carolina at noon on Saturday.
