Women’s Soccer Continues Road Trip at Alabama
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (8-1-3, 0-1-3) will conclude a series of back-to-back road games this week as they face Alabama (7-2-4, 0-0-4) in Tuscaloosa on Friday at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. The match will be televised on SECN+.
The Wildcats enter the match after tying Oklahoma 2-2 last Sunday in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. All four goals were scored in the opening 45 minutes of action with the final three coming in the span of just six minutes. Makala Woods and Mia Bookhard were on the score sheet for the Wildcats as they earned their second straight draw in Southeastern Conference play and third overall so far this season. Woods now has six goals in 12 matches with 13 points, a career-high in both categories. Kentucky has a total of three points through four games in conference play so far this season and finds themselves 13th in the SEC standings.
Alabama, a program also seeking its first win in the SEC this season, enters the match after tying Georgia 2-2 on the road and has tied all four games to start their conference play this year. The Crimson Tide took the lead in the 27th minute through leading goal scorer Gianna Paul who has nine goals on the season and leads the SEC in goals scored. The lead didn’t last long as Georgia tied the game at 1-1 three minutes later. Alabama scored again just before the break in the 42nd minute and led at halftime 2-1. The Bulldogs equalized in the 58th minute for the eventual 2-2 draw.
Kentucky leads the all-time series against Alabama 14-7-2 with a 5-5-1 away record. The Wildcats last traveled to Tuscaloosa on October 21st, 2021, where they lost 2-1 in overtime. The last meeting between the two teams came on September 29th, 2023, when alumna Jordyn Rhodes scored twice in a 2-1 upset victory over a then-ranked #9 Alabama team to become the program’s all-time leading goal scorer.
