Women’s Tennis Closes Regular Season Schedule with Loss at Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky women’s tennis (8-14, 2-11 SEC) fell to No. 6 Georgia (17-4, 12-1 SEC) 4-0 on Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex to close the 2024 regular season schedule.
The Bulldog victory over the Wildcats resulted in UGA clinching the 2024 Southeastern Conference Regular Season title for the 12th time in program history.
Beginning the afternoon with doubles play, Georgia claimed the point to have a 1-0 advantage. Court 1 was the first to finish as the No. 9 nationally ranked tandem of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova defeated No. 55 Makayla Mills and Elizabeth Stevens, 1-6. Court 2 equalized doubles play as Zoe Hammond and Ellie Eades came out on top, 6-2, over Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn. However, the point was clinched for the Bulldogs on Court 3 as Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco defeated Julia Zhu and Maialen Morante, 6-2.
In singles play, Court 4 was the first to complete as Zhu fell to Georgia’s Aysegul, 1-6, 2-6. With a 2-0 advantage, the Bulldogs quickly claimed another point with a win on Court 5. Grant defeated Mills, 6-1 6-1. Georgia clinched the match with a win on Court 6 as Nirundorn came out on top against Morante, 6-1, 6-0.
The Wildcats will now look to the SEC held in Athens, Ga. next week with seeding and time of play to be announced.
